Fayette, Iowa – SBU softball completed a dominant performance over the Upper Iowa Peacocks Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats swept the day run-ruling both games by a final score of 11-2, moving to 17-25 (6-10 GLVC) on the season. This is the first time since 2017 the Bearcats swept a conference opponent in two run-rule games.
Game 1 vs Upper Iowa; Win, 11-2
SBU started the game out strong scoring five runs in the first two innings. After one run in the first,
Emily Titus recorded her second hit of the game scoring
Kinleigh Kite in the 2
nd. Two batters later, sophomore
Keeley Elsea launched her 6
th home run of the season score three total. The Bearcats continued to pile on in the 5
th with five runs, forcing a run rule win after the fifth inning.
Titus and Elsea finished the game with three hits apiece as
Jalaya Ries added two. Elsea led the team with three runs score and three RBI's adding to her impressive season.
Shalie Wooden earned her 9
th win of the season pitching 4 innings allowing only three hits and zero earned runs.
Game 2 vs Upper Iowa: Win, 11-2
Despite the Peacocks scoring first, the Bearcats scored 11 unanswered runs forcing another run rule win. SBU's scoring opened in the second inning as Gracee Brockman recorded her second home run of the season with a blast to left center. Three more runs scored in the 2
nd as
Ava Minton recorded an RBI scoring
Joscelyn Bennett.
Talyn Jackson and
Shalie Wooden would also score off Upper Iowa's errors. In the next three innings, SBU offense continued to propel scoring seven more runs finishing with another 11-2 victory.
Freshman
Ava Minton had a career game recording a season high two hits and three RBI's. Sophomore Titus continued her impressive day recording two more hits and adding on three RBI's. Elsea and
Joscelyn Bennett each had two hits in the game.
Abby Leer started on the mound throwing four innings recording her sixth win of the season with five strikeouts.
After completing their first conference sweep of the season, the Bearcats return to action Sunday afternoon seeking a weekend sweep against the Quincy Hawks. The doubleheader will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Quincy, Illinois.
