Indianapolis, Ind. – The SBU women's soccer team picked up their first GLVC victory of the season Sunday afternoon, defeating the University of Indianapolis 2-1 on the road. The win moves the Bearcats to 3-6-1 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Annabelle Shuler put the Bearcats in front in the 24th minute, scoring her first goal of the season off an assist from Jade Johnson and sister Addi Shuler. SBU carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime before Taylor Krause doubled the lead in the 57th minute with her first goal of the season, scoring a header from a corner kick assisted by Samantha Mullen. Krause's goal would prove to be the game winner as UIndy answered seven minutes later, but the Bearcats held strong over the final 26 minutes to secure the victory.
SBU controlled the offensive attack throughout the afternoon, outshooting the Greyhounds 23-9 and holding a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Bearcats also earned nine corner kicks compared to just one for UIndy. Addi Shuler led SBU with five shots, while Cece Alexander made two saves in goal.
The Bearcats continue their road trip Wednesday, September 30, traveling to Truman State University for a noon matchup in Kirksville, Missouri.
