Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late Goal From Addi Shuler Helps Bearcats Earn Draw Against Newman

Wichita, Kan. – The SBU women's soccer team continued their strong start to the 2026 season Saturday morning, battling Newman University to a 1-1 draw at Stryker Sports Complex. The result moves the Bearcats to 1-0-1 on the season.

The two teams remained scoreless through the opening 45 minutes despite SBU controlling much of the attack. The Bearcats carried that momentum into the second half, firing 15 shots over the final 45 minutes. Newman broke through first in the 75th minute as Aleksah Moreno found the back of the net to give the Jets a 1-0 advantage.

SBU wasted little time responding. Just 73 seconds later, sophomore Addi Shuler scored the equalizer for her first goal of the season, evening the match at 1-1. The Bearcats continued to pressure Newman down the stretch but were unable to find the game winner.

The Bearcats dominated the offensive numbers, outshooting Newman 19-2, including a 15-1 advantage in the second half. Juana Fernandez Calvo led SBU with five shots and three shots on goal, while Annabelle Shuler added four shots. Goalkeeper Cece Alexander played all 90 minutes, allowing just one goal while making one save.

SBU will have one more road match against Hendrix College on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before beginning conference play next Saturday.
