Bolivar, Mo. – Southwest Baptist University's (SBU) baseball team wrapped up their doubleheader on Friday, dropping both games to the Missouri S&T Miners. The Bearcats now have an overall record of 13-18 and 7-12 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
Game 1: SBU 4-9 Missouri S&T
The SBU offense started early when junior
Ryan Ray hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning to score junior
Collin McLemore and tie the game at one a piece. The Miners responded with a quick three runs in the top of the second, giving them a lead they would hold for the remainder of the game. SBU's other runs all came on RBIs from senior
Scott Allan. In the fifth inning, Allan singled and sent redshirt junior
Hayden Prewitt home, and in the sixth inning, Allan reached first on an error which allowed juniors
Cameron Dean and
Beau Honeycutt to score.
Junior
Eli Stewart started on the mound for the Bearcats in the first game of the day, pitching five complete innings in which he recorded two strikeouts and allowed seven hits and three walks. Stewart was relieved by senior
Jake Fuller in the sixth inning. Fuller pitched one strikeout while allowing four hits and no walks.
Game 2: SBU 3-9 Missouri S&T
The Miners started the second game of the day on fire as they put up five runs in the top of the first inning. These runs alone were enough to give Missouri S&T the victory as SBU's offense was unable to score after the first two innings, leading to a 3-9 final score.
SBU's run in the first inning was scored after an error allowed senior
Conner Titus to reach first and freshman
Isaac McIntosh to reach home. Redshirt freshman
Reese Ruderman increased the Bearcats' score to three in the second inning with a single to center field, resulting in two RBIs as McIntosh and Prewitt both scored their second run of the day.
Ruderman led Southwest Baptist in hitting in the second game of the day, going 3-4 with one double and two RBIs. McIntosh had a solid day as well, going 2-4 with two singles, scoring two-thirds of SBU's runs in the game, and adding a stolen base.
Three players saw time on the mound, beginning with redshirt senior
Roberto Garcia. Garcia pitched a complete five innings and recorded four strikeouts. Redshirt junior
Matthew St. Pe came in to pitch 0.2 innings in the sixth before being relieved by fellow redshirt junior
Jude Sundquist. Sundquist finished the game with two strikeouts.
