Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU softball team began an 11-game home stand Friday evening with a doubleheader sweep over Arlington Baptist. These two wins extend their winning streak to three and move their record to 7-10.
Game 1: Win, 10-2
After two runs from the Lady Patriots in the 3
rd, SBU sophomore
Jacie Frencken answered with a three-run bomb for a 3-2 lead. The runs continued to pile on in the 4
th inning as the Bearcats extended the lead to 10-2. This started with a 2 RBI double from
Shalie Wooden that scored Hallie McMilllian and
Taylor Howard.
Reagan Echelmeier and
Keeley Elsea added two more runs with back-to-back RBIs. Freshman
Mia Hendrickson cleared the bases with a double in the next at bat for the final three runs of the game.
Abby Leer started on the mound throwing all five innings earning her 4
th win of the year with five strikeouts.
Game 2: Win, 6-0
The second game of the day belonged all to the Bearcats as they got on the board early and held the lead throughout for their second shutout of the season. With the bases loaded early in the first Wooden advanced Elsea to score the first run of the game. The game remained just a one run lead until the 4
th where SBU piled on four more runs. Starting with a bunt from
Ava Minton that turned into an inside the park home run off a Lady Patriot error that score two runs. After a
Jalaya Ries run,
Tyra Haffer tripled down the right field line scoring
Graccee Brockman from 1
st base. The final run came from Benley Lowden in a single to right field scoring Echelmeier for a 6-0 win. Wooden started on the mound throwing for four innings recording her 4
th win of the season.
Cambri Van Loo relieved her in 5
th throwing the final three innings recording her save.
SBU softball will return to action Saturday afternoon as they finish up the three game series against Arlington Baptist. First pitch for this game will be at 12:00 p.m. in the SBU softball field.
