Lebanon, Ill. – Southwest Baptist baseball continued the Bearcat Brawl Saturday afternoon sweeping the McKendree Bearcats in the double header. This three game win streak moves them to 12-11 (6-5 GLVC) on the season.
Game 1: Win, 14-6
Despite McKendree scoring the first two runs of the game, SBU used a 10-run 4
th inning to boost the Bearcats to a big lead.
Beau Honeycutt got the scoring started with a single to left field that scored
Reese Ruderman and
Conner Titus. In succeeding plays, SBU took advantage of McKendree mistakes that allowed
Jared Pugrad, Honeycutt,
Scott Allan, and
Collin McLemore to score. In the second time around, Titus hit his second home run of the season in grand fashion pushing the lead to 10-2. Later in the game, Honeycutt recorded a three-run home run extending the lead to 14-2.
Eli Stewart started on the mound and recorded his second win of the season throwing for six innings, recording five strikeouts. Honeycutt went an impressive 3-4 in the game recording five RBI's and scoring three runs.
Game 2: Win, 14-9
Second game of the day was closer as there was at least one run scored in nearly every inning. After SBU notched a run in the top half of the first, McKendree answered with four runs of their own in bottom part of the first inning. SBU didn't enjoy trailing, so a five run second put them in the lead for the remainder of the game.
Scott Allan,
Raydley Legito, Titus, and Honeycutt all recorded RBI's in the 2
nd through 5
th inning. Legito had two singles that both results in two RBI's. Heading into the top final inning, SBU held a narrow lead of 10-8 as McKendree continued to battle back.
Jared Pugrad decided to give SBU some insurance runs as he hit a grand slam extending the lead to six.
Roberto Garcia started on the mound and threw a strong 3.2 innings, recording four strikeouts.
Koen Van T Klooster came in to relieve him throwing 3.1 innings and only allowing three runs for his second win of the season.
Southwest Baptist baseball will look for the series sweep Sunday afternoon against McKendree. The final game will begin at 12:00 p.m.
