Ozark, Mo. – The SBU beach volleyball team completed their first weekend of action on Saturday against Eastern Kentucky and Lindenwood University. The Bearcats fell in both games 0-5 to these Division I opponents, moving to 0-4 on the season.
The first match of the day was against the Colonels where each pair fell in both sets. The #4 pair of
Sara Younkin and
Rory Stanley had the closest match of the day scoring 17 and 15 points in their sets.
Addi Fanning and
Melanie Cox fell at the #1 spot 13-21, 8-21.
Maya Keller and
Bre Perez followed at the #2 spot scoring 11 and 7 points respectively in their matches. Abby Garner and
Reagan Hoerning were at the #3 spot and
Savannah Chance and
Fayth Kaminski rounded out the #5 spot with those pairs falling 11-21, 16-21 and 8-21, 7-21 respectively.
Game two was against former conference foe of Lindenwood University where the Bearcats had some closer pairs. For the second time this season the #1 pair of Fanning and Cox nearly took down their opponents, getting edged in the 3
rd set 14-16. Keller and Perez went down in the #2 spot 14-21 & 11-21. The pairs of Garner & Hoerning, Younkin & Stanley, Chance & Kaminski lost (9-21, 11-21; 17-21, 16-21; & 11-21, 12-21) respectively.
The Bearcats will take a week off before competing again down in Ozark against Oklahoma Wesleyan and Otta University. They will play both those teams twice on March 14
th beginning at 8:00 a.m.
