Kansas City, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's volleyball team will hit the road in their final weekend before Great Lakes Valley Conference play starts. The Bearcats will travel to Kansas City, MO to take on Avila University in a double-header on February 27th at 6:00 PM and Saturday February 28th at 2:00 PM.
Following a 6-1 record and a five game win streak in their impressive inaugural season, the Bearcats are looking to improve their game play in the final weekend before competing in conference play. This will be the second time SBU will face off against Avila, where the Bearcats dominated the Eagles in a 3-0 sweep.
This past weekend in winning games against Central Christian College and Westminster College,
Keahi Kaneakua racked up 59 assists for 9.8 assists per set leading him to first ever the GLVC Setter of the Week Award for SBU. The Bearcats are led offensively by
Lucas Phelan managing 3.96 kills per set and is first on the team in points with 118.5 and
Evan Strahlendorf with 3.36 kills per set and 103.0 total points. Leading the defense is
Nelson Castellanos with 70 digs and 2.8 digs per set.
Following the trip to Kansas City, the Bearcats will open GLVC play on the road in St. Louis taking on the Maryville Saints next weekend.
