Second Half Surge Lifts SBU Past Jewell

Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU men's soccer team used a three-goal second half to pick up its second straight GLVC victory Wednesday afternoon, defeating William Jewell College 5-3 at the SBU Soccer Field. The win moves the Bearcats to 6-4-2 overall and 3-4-2 in GLVC play.

The action started quickly with Justin McPherson putting SBU on the board just over five minutes into the match off an assist from Thomas Ladetto. William Jewell responded less than a minute later to even the match at 1-1.

SBU regained the advantage in the 30th minute when Ladetto found the back of the net off an assist from Joe Wright. The Cardinals once again answered, scoring in the 43rd minute to send the teams into halftime tied at 2-2.

The Bearcats came out firing after the break. Wright scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 61st minute, with McPherson and Max Lohmeier combining on the assists. William Jewell answered once more just over three minutes later to make it 3-3, but from there it was all SBU.

Nathan Eagan delivered the eventual game-winner in the 71st minute, scoring his first goal of the season off an assist from Derrick Londono Zapata. Ladetto then put the match away in the 77th minute, scoring his second goal of the afternoon off a Maxence Cardon assist to give SBU the 5-3 advantage.

Ladetto led the Bearcat attack with two goals and an assist, while Wright and McPherson each finished with a goal and an assist. SBU finished with 23 shots, including 15 in the second half, and put 12 attempts on goal. The Bearcats also held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Martin King played all 90 minutes in goal, recording four saves to earn his second straight victory.

The win gives SBU back-to-back GLVC victories and moves the Bearcats to 6-4-2 overall with 11 points in conference play. They will return to action this Saturday at Quincy University with a scheduled start time of 2:30 p.m.
