Bolivar, Mo. - After nearly a two-year wait, the SBU men's volleyball team is set to begin their first regular season competition this weekend. These games will take place on Friday at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. in Fulton, Missouri.
Â
It will be an exciting day for this program as it will mark their first every collegiate game as a Bearcat men's volleyball team. This first game will be led by head coach Pono Yin in his second year at SBU, but first year in competition.Â
Â
"I am so excited to lead this brand-new program and see the steps we take as a team. Tomorrow we make history - proud of this group and ready for our first match" - Head Coach Pono Yin.
Â
The Bearcats sponsor a young team that consists of 14 freshmen, two juniors, one sophomore, and one graduate student. Despite the young group it's loaded with talent, energy, and a hunger to grow. Coach Yin is excited to continue building the foundation of this team throughout the first season and see it grow.
Â
Their first match will be at 4:00 p.m. against Spalding University, a division III school also in their first year as a program. After that match, the Bearcats will take on the host of the weekend, Westminster College at 6:00 p.m., another Division II school in their 3rd year as a program. They are off to an excellent 6-1 start and are receiving votes in the National Poll.
