Bolivar, Mo. — SBU's women's basketball team defeated the Hannibal-LaGrange University Trojans Tuesday evening with a score of 101-47, surpassing a century of points for the second time this season. The victory over the Trojans puts the Bearcats at 2-3 for the season.
The Bearcats came out strong from the beginning of the game, ending the first quarter with 26 points compared to the Trojans' 6 points. SBU out performed Hannibal-LaGrange through all four quarters, for the 54 point victory.
Junior
Kamiyah Hurd led the team in points scored (20), shooting 7-8 from the field and 4-4 from free throws towards her SBU career high. She also became the second Bearcat to earn a double-double this season with 12 rebounds. Sophomore
Reagan Wells followed Hurd with 18 points, shooting 5-8 from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line. The team had impressive shooting from the field (60%) and from beyond the arc (55.6%). Their 15 threes in the game is the most recorded in a game in over two years by the Bearcats.
SBU exemplified their excellent defense with 17 steals leading to 38 points from turnovers. They kept the Trojans off the glass by doubling the amount of rebounds from (40-20) and scored 26 points off their second chances.
Following tonight's impressive victory, the Lady Bearcats begin GLVC play this weekend in Jefferson City, Mo. where they square off against Lincoln University on Saturday, November 25 at 1:00 p.m.
